Look at that maw! But don't worry--it's harmless. This species of jumping spider is the closest known relative to the vegetarian Bagheera kiplingi, although Bagheera prosper can be easily kept on a steady diet of fruit flies. Jumping spiders make excellent pets, requiring little space (a 1-L deli cup is fine) and exhibiting a wide range of interesting (and intelligent) behaviors. Some scientists think that these cute little arachnids may rival the octopus in intelligence. Buy a male and female and try to start a colony of your own!
